DIY lighting

my house is awful to do portraits in due to the windows only being at the back and a teeny tiny one at the front, so to create this shot

was really difficult, the lack of light meant the image looked horrible and flat :( and due to not have a lighting kit and i had to improvise!

and i lost my tripod aswell (who knows how you can lose a tripod?!) so i had to improvise with a good bit of ol' stacking. At least this way is cheap :)

Surrealism

Due to my book subject ive looked into surrealism for inspiration, Rodney smith is someone ive found that has inspired me.

I love the simplicity of his work, the black and white adding to a very minamilist feel about the images.

When it comes to looking at surrealism i often find it better to look at artists rather than photographers, someone who has inspired me recently is Magritte

Simple images with one thing that takes them from normal to abnormal.

HI GUYS (again)

if anyone needs any help with editing photos using photoshop theres a website called Phlearn (www.phlearn.com) everyday the photographer, Aaron nace, puts out another episode to help with a certain aspect of editing, website construction, how to promote yourself etc. I've found it so so so helpful so check it out :) oh and check him out on flickr aswell, amaaaaazing!

Hi Guysss!

so i decided my theme for the book project was going to be phobias, something i orginally started at a level. I like photoshop and so wanted something that really allowed me to go a bit crazy with editing without constraints. The first picture i attempted was Maleusiophobia, the fear of dentists.

I found it quite hard to come with something visual and easy to understand that matched the phobia, so 20 or so phobias i chose are quite random! but hopefully work best for the images created.

More to come! :)
